The disaster preparedness of Queensland councils has been blasted in a damning report that highlighted a lack of collaboration and planning between authorities.

A review by the Inspector-General Emergency Management found few councils had sufficient early warning systems in place.

The report, tabled in Parliament by Emergency Services Minister Jo-Ann Miller on Monday, found a lack of sufficient planning and profiling of communities to identify “barriers to effective communication”.

The damning report found warning systems did “not allow for the continuous flow of critical, up-to-date and relevant” information between stakeholders.

The report made several recommendations, including a review of the Queensland State Disaster Management Plan and a “qualitative assessment” of public information and warnings.
