Keynote Highlight – Deputy Commissioner Brett Pointing APM, Regional Operations, Queensland Police Service

The Australian & New Zealand Disaster and Emergency Management Conference continues to support the Disaster and Emergency Management community with a strong focus on natural disasters and 2015 marks the 4th year of the event. The ANZDM Conference will be held 4-5 May 2015 at Jupiters Gold Coast with the theme of EARTH; FIRE AND RAIN.

deputy-commissioner-brett-pointingDeputy Commissioner Pointing joined the Queensland Police Service in 1978 as a Cadet and was inducted into the QPS in 1981.  In his career as a Detective he performed duty in a variety of squads, including the Drug Squad, the Stock Investigation Squad, Taringa and Fortitude Valley Criminal Investigation Branches, and Brisbane City CI Branch. Deputy Commissioner Brett Pointing APM, Regional Operations, Queensland Police Service will be a Keynote Speaker at the 2015 Australian & New Zealand Disaster and Emergency Management Conference at Jupiters Gold Coast on the 4 – 5 May 2015.

In 1996 he was promoted to the rank of Inspector, working at Operations Support Command, the Oxley Police Academy, Toowoomba and Rockhampton. In 2003, he was promoted to Superintendent, District Officer, Gold Coast Police District.

In the capacity of Assistant Commissioner he has commanded Metropolitan South Region, Operations Support Command and Metropolitan North Region.  During the 2010-2011 Season of Disasters, Deputy Commissioner Pointing was appointed the Executive Officer to the State Disaster Coordination Group and played a pivotal role in coordinating the police response.

Deputy Commissioner Pointing was awarded the Australian Police Medal in the 2008 Queen’s Honours List.  He has been awarded the Queensland Police Service Medal, National Service Medal, National Police Medal, National Emergency Medal, Meritorious Service Award and the Queensland Flood and Cyclone Citation.

Deputy Commissioner Pointing took up his current position on January 1, 2013 and co-ordinated the disaster recovery of Bundaberg and North Burnett Regional Council areas in the wake of ex tropical cyclone Oswald.

He has recently been appointed to lead the policing response aimed at dismantling and eliminating Criminal Motorcycle Gangs from Queensland.
