Mona Curry
Mona Curry is an accomplished emergency management and consulting professional with more than two decades of experience advancing disaster readiness and community resilience. She serves as a board member and consultant for Hui o’Hau‘ula, a Hawai‘i-based community association and nonprofit dedicated to promoting equity and resilience in the Ko‘olauloa region of O‘ahu. Mona also plays an active role in the Ko‘olauloa Resiliency Hub—an innovative, off-grid facility designed to provide daily resilience-based services to the community and function as an emergency shelter with Emergency Operations Center (EOC) capabilities during disasters.
From 2021 to 2025, Mona was appointed by the Governor to serve on the State of Hawai‘i Emergency Management Agency’s Advisory Council. Her professional career spans 28 years with the City of Los Angeles, where she specialized in disaster response, complex project coordination, and the management of facilities and personnel. She culminated her city career as an Emergency Manager for a Bureau of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), focusing on active shooter preparedness and training. Mona also served as a Division Supervisor within the Operations Section of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), responding to disasters at the national level.
Mona is currently contributing to a forthcoming academic textbook on Crisis Communication, to be published in 2026.
A respected leader in her field, Mona is frequently invited to mentor emerging professionals and to share her expertise as a podcast guest and conference speaker both nationally and internationally.
