Who are Australia’s Emergency Managers?

The 2018 Australian and New Zealand Disaster and Emergency Management Conference is almost here again, this year the Conference will be held over the 21-22 May at The Star Gold Coast.

Mr Dudley Mcardle, Senior Emergency Management Advisor at Monash University joins us to discuss Who are Australia’s Emergency Managers?’

Background: Monumental change confronts the emergency management sector. Consequently, Emergency Managers must adjust to the ever-broadening range of skills, knowledge and attitudes needed to perform their responsibilities as well as how they acquire those skills. Yet little is known or documented about Australia’s emergency managers – who they are; what their skills and qualifications are and what experience they bring to their positions.

Mr Dudley Mcardle

Dudley is the proprietor of the DMac DIRECTIONS emergency management consultancy. He has provided consultancy services to Federal, State and Local Government Departments. In a long career in emergency management, he occupied senior executive emergency management positions at international, national and state levels.

Since November 2009 he has worked as the Monash University Emergency Management Senior Policy Advisor. He served for 28 years as an officer in the Royal Australian Air Force and worked for a number of years in the United Nations in Geneva. He has participated in and led a number of international humanitarian field missions
