The 2018 Australian and New Zealand Disaster and Emergency Management Conference is almost here again, this year the Conference will be held over the 21-22 May at The Star Gold Coast.

Ms Jill Brix, Principal Consultant at Avisure joins us at the Conference to discuss ‘Emergency Management at Airports – An Overview’.

Abstract

In 2016, nearly 230 aircraft were involved in accidents in Australia, with 15 fatal accidents and 291 serious incidents. The Australian Federal Police (AFP) operate at nine of the major airports and Air Services Australia Rescue and Fire Fighting Service (ARFF) at 26 airports, however with over 2000 airfields in Australia (and many a bush paddock in between) the aviation industry relies heavily on local emergency resources to respond to incidents and understand airport operations.

This presentation will focus on the following:
• The legislative requirements for emergency response exercises at airports.
• Key airport personnel and their role in an emergency.
• The difference between city airports, the country cousins and bush strips.
• The importance of emergency exercises.
• The role of emergency services personnel in airport emergency plans.

Biography

With more than 27 years of aviation experience, Jill is a highly valued contributor to the Australian aviation industry. Before joining Avisure she had worked at six Queensland and Northern Territory airports, where she has been responsible for airfield operations, airfield security, workplace health a safety and environment management. Jill has been responsible for responding to emergency incidents and has facilitated a variety of emergency exercises on joint user airfields (civil/military), large airports and small regional aerodromes. Jill is also an Operations Officer as an Active Reservist with the Royal Australian Air Force, currently based at 23SQN, RAAF Base Amberley.
