Dr Richard Thornton

CEO, Natural Hazards Research Australia

Dr Richard Thornton is the Chief Executive Officer of the Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC, a position he has held since 2013. He has overall responsibility for research direction and performance, as well as being the public face of the centre. He led the development of the CRC following the Prime Ministerial announcement in February 2013.

Richard is a research management specialist with almost 30 years in the field, previously with the Bushfire CRC and Telstra.

Richard is currently leading the development of the recently announced national disaster resilience and disaster risk reduction research centre.
