Do you have ideas on how we respond to disasters?
In times of disaster it can be difficult for government staff to access and assess areas that are hardest hit by a disaster, as basic infrastructure including roads, communication, electricity and water are often severely damaged.
Disaster coordination centres and senior staff require real time data to assist, across multiple systems and processes.
Senior Sergeant Jo Griffin from Rockhampton Police has been working with OneGovCG which aims to foster an inclusive, collaborative and innovative government in CQ that enhances public service, drives innovation and leads the delivery of government priorities.
“We are looking for innovative solutions across, data and technology, process and the citizen experience so we can better respond to disaster situations,” Senior Sergeant Griffin said.
Through this approach the Disaster Management Hackathon was conceived.
A hackathon brings people with different skillsets together to solve complex problems through an intense and focused collaborative effort.
This is undertaken in a fun environment where teams pitch their ideas and compete against one another.
Teams will present their innovative solutions to a team of judges and winners will be announced at the final celebration dinner.
CQ Disaster Hack is your opportunity to help the Queensland Government develop innovative solutions concerning Disaster Management.
We are looking for a solution that will enhance the digital interoperability of the many agencies that are involved in Disaster Management.

‘Participants could include; ICT experts, entrepreneurs, Disaster management practitioners, people with keen interest in improving processes and systems and improving collaboration and innovation across government and community.
“If you’re passionate about developing better ways to respond to and provide relief during disasters in Queensland, this could be for you.”
